THE HALL HOUSE

Croxley Green, Hertfordshire

The original structure of this house dates from the late 1400’s. The remains of the house were listed Grade II in January 2004. At the start of the works the Hall House stood as a 3 bay structure which had fallen into a very poor state of repair and was derelict.

Our brief involved the renovation and preservation of the existing structure. A new fourth bay was added and a cross wing built to the western end of the dwelling. New English oak beams and frames were used and the existing timbers were salvaged where possible. The external wall panels were made up of oak timber frames which were infilled using a hemp based compound mixed with lime. This produced a breathable wall material with very low embedded carbon dioxide levels. The contract lasted about nine months and was completed in January 2008.
